2024 in parts

I realize that I don't blog as much as I used to, and infact it might just become a yearly thing as time goes on, but hey, that is life as a single mom. So, I will give you the highlights:  A VISIT FROM NANA The start of the year, mom came to visit us. She has a standard reservation in our spare bedroom which is always referred to as "Nana's room" by the boy, even when she isn't here.  For the length of time mom comes for visits (2-3 month) there wasn't many adventures this time around. Most of the time I was working while Henry spent time with his dad and the weekends are mostly reserved for Henry playing with his neighbourhood friends (I always feel bad taking him to do things when he could be happy playing with friends). However, mama and i managed a quick trip to Iceland to see the northern lights. It was a fun little get away, but there was drama. 🤣  I took mom on a short hike through the woods to get to the Observatory we wanted to visit. We had some st...

Furbabies

My life without cats is just a more depressed life. Honestly, being around them boosts my serotonin levels skyhigh.... so having a cat in my life, even if its an 'adopted' one, is a necessity.  My Charlie ❤️‍🩹 Since we lost Charlie "char char" Binxy cat, its been a rough road. I knew that we would be getting another cat at some point, but it wasnt time until recently. Henry and i have had other cats to cuddle and fuss over in the meantime, but it is nothing compared to having a furbaby of our own. And Henry does love kitties as much as his mama does. He puts on the "baby cute" voice whenever he pets a cat gently and, just like mama, he will drop everything to follow a cat until said cat lets us pet them.  Skylar We have a standing cuddle reservation with Skylar, a gentle Calico cat that lives 2 doors up from us with our neighbour Sarah. Sarah is ever so nice and even said to Henry once that we "share" Skylar because she could see how much he loved...

Garden Makeover

When we bought this house, the decking was so pretty and it sold me on the place aesthetically. It did help that the estate agent photos of the back garden were very lovely, and the decking furniture was in view so it made a pretty picture of what life would be like with this beautiful back garden.  Photo from the estate agents before buying the house. Photo from the estate agents In practicality, the decking wasnt a great choice. There was maintenance of staining the decking regularily to ensure it stayed prestine, which with everything going on was a task in and of itself, but then when we put all of OUR stuff on the decking (homemade pallet furniture that was too heavy to move regularily) it became more of a chore.  The second thing was that this was a house where a baby turned toddler grew up, so mess was made, decking was powerwashed down to clear the mess and over time the decking began to rot in places. In redoing the back patio, I discovered that the decking had a blac...

Observations in Retrospect

Image
I posted a meme recently of "A picture of you in...2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023". It got me looking back at my camera roll and i noticed my state of mind in pictures of: being a mother, going through a pandemic, trying to make a relationship work, and being 'single'. The last few years i definately haven't taken as many pictures of myself as i used to; most of my camera roll is Henry or cats to be honest. But i could definitely tell when i was most happy and when i was masking.  March 2020 April 2020 August 2020 August 2020 February 2021 July 2021 September 2021 September 2021 January 2022 February 2022 January 2022 July 2022 July 2022 October 2022 January 2023 Jan 2023 January 2023 Ive found that im absolutely my happiest when im with Henry. But besides that im seeing myself becoming more and more genuinely happy in pictures, especially between now and this time last year. There are plenty of factors for this...less restrictions in the pandemic, not being around an...
